The Amiga Association receives a grant of 4,500 euros for the early detection of breast cancer

MURCIA (EUROPA PRESS). This organization has the objective of weaving a support network for women with breast cancer, work in which the City Council also participates, through Social Rights. Every year 33,000 new cases of this disease are diagnosed in Spain.

Breast cancer is the second most common in women behind lung cancer according to data released by the World Health Organization. The action of the City Council and the Friendly Association seeks accompaniment of women to prevent them from facing a trance like this disease alone.

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, which was commemorated last week, the Councilor for Social Rights, Pilar Torres, has held a meeting by videoconference with representatives of the Asociación Amiga Murcia. At the meeting, the collaboration that the Municipal Social Services maintains with this entity for the development of policies to support women was valued.

In this sense, Pilar Torres has pointed out that “Asociación Amiga carries out an essential work of support, support and attention to women who suffer or have suffered breast cancer. The creation and maintenance of health, care and rehabilitation practices in relation to the physical and mental health of affected women is also promoted.

Another line of work has to do with the design and implementation of awareness campaigns, round tables, talks, presentations and activities that promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles by the population to prevent the appearance of diseases that can aggravate the status of cancer patients.

Finally, the Amiga Association also intends to strengthen ties with breast units in hospitals, providing the experience of women who have experienced the disease as a stimulus to transmit help and serenity in the face of the first moments of diagnosis, possible surgical intervention and the treatments the woman must follow as part of the healing process.
