Every writer has been conditioned by the historical period that he has had to live. This, in addition to influencing his original works, he has also done it in his private life. On many occasions, these personal experiences were narrated and published after his death. Therefore, because through personal testimony we can transport ourselves to a specific time and put ourselves more than ever in the skin and mind of the narrator, we have compiled a list of six essential literary journals.
1. ‘The Anne Frank Diary’
Perhaps it is the most famous newspaper on the list. The Van Daan family hid with another Jewish family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Anne Frank, the youngest of the family, narrates the running of the bulls that spanned two years until his arrest by the Gestapo.
2. ‘Captivated by joy’ (C.S.Lewis)
The writer of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ among many other works throughout his career he relates in this book his process of conversion to Christianity. He did it because of the number of requests from followers that arrived to explain his case. To do this, he returns to his childhood and makes a deep analysis of his personal life.
3. ‘Diaries’ (Franz Kafka)
These writings contain the life of the author of ‘Metamorphosis‘during the years 1910 to 1923. The mysterious personality and mentality of the writer are discovered in these newspapers.

4. ‘Consciousness Anointed with Flesh’ (Susan Sontag)
This is the second part of his diaries during the years 1964-1980. In them he tells of his trips to Sweden and Hanoi, the latter from the hand of the Vietnam War. The thinker explains her political and moral awakening in a book in which their internal mechanisms, emotions and reflections are discovered.
5. ‘The Pain’ (Marguerite Duras)
This book narrates the last days of the Nazi occupation in France and the first days of his liberation. Marguerite narrates how the roles of executioners and victims were switched sides, in addition to her own personal drama. She awaits the return of a husband whom she no longer loves and her complicated relationship with a Gestapo agent whom she will hand over to the Resistance.
6. ‘Intimate Diary’ (Miguel de Unamuno)
This newspaper is made up of five notebooks in which the writer narrates his feelings and doubts, hopes and fears that he suffered with his spiritual crisis during the last years of the XIX century. With this change in perspective, you can better understand your latest work and the change in direction that your life suffered.
