The 30 most dangerous roads in Europe

Are you dreaming of a road trip in Europe this summer? Every day, an estimated one billion cars travel the roads. Areas that are sometimes winding or congested by traffic and which require extra vigilance. “The coronavirus pandemic has only encouraged risky driving due to the drop in traffic on the roads”, underlines the insurance company Budget-Direct at the origin of the study.

The accident rates on these European roads were analyzed to establish this classification as well as the weather conditions, the frequentation rate and the design of the roads to best guarantee the safety of motorists.

Route 622 which runs along the northwest coast of Iceland, one of the few Westfjords 4×4 tracks to admire the Dýrafjördur and Arnarfjördur fjords is one of the most dangerous especially because of the extreme weather. The road, popular for a road trip in Iceland, is also completely closed to the public for part of the year due to snow and ice.

Another road deemed dangerous is the A1010 in the United Kingdom which passes through London with a rate of 12.7 accidents per million vehicles, nearly nine times the national average.
