The 20th edition of NIFFF canceled

The coronavirus also got the better of NIFFF this year. The organizers of the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival have canceled their 20th editing. The announcement was made Thursday morning. The current health crisis has had a significant impact on the world of cinema. In addition, major events cannot be held before the end of the summer according to the latest decision of the Federal Council. The anniversary is therefore postponed to 2021.

Instead, the NIFFF plans a different projection thanks to an online special event between July 3 and 11, 2020. Several actions are planned:

  • A paid digital offer of around twenty new titles, which will compete for the RTS Public Prize. A prize awarded by spectators through a mobile application developed by NIFFF.
  • The launch of NIFFF TV which will offer a free daily program echoing its online offer. This project will allow exchanges and lines of reflection on the current affairs of fantastic cinema.

A retrospective program, “Fantastique 20 20 20”, will also be deployed on May 15 on the RTS. The show invites you to plunge into 20 years of fantasy to reflect on the evolution of the genre through the prism of the festival. Broadcasting will continue in autumn in partner Swiss cinemas and institutions. This traveling cycle will extend to the 20th edition of NIFFF next year. / as-swe
