That’s why we never got a Mass Effect movie

I 2010 EA sold the Mass Effect film rights to Legendary Pictures. At the time, it seemed like a movie was slowly but surely in the making, but nothing came of it.

Now, 11 years later, we have learned a little more about what happened behind the scenes. In an interview with Business Insider BioWare author Mac Walters says the film project struggled after Legendary got new executives who wanted to invest more in television. The plan was thus to start from the beginning, but then they never got on.

Nevertheless, Walter believes that a Mass Effect project can happen quickly, and that it is more about “when”, and not “about”. He envisions that TV is the right format, so you get the opportunity to explore the Mass Effect story broadly.

Earlier this year, it could actually seem as if a TV series about the well-known game series was in the pipeline. Henry Cavill – currently most relevant as Geralt in The Witcher series – added February posted a photo on Instagram which indicated that he had a Mass Effect script at hand. We have never heard anything more about this, and do not know if it was an actual project that had begun, or an unfinished script Cavill had read.

Good collection package

The Mass Effect series got a new lease of life this year with the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition bundle. It brings together the first three games in refurbished form. Most attention has been paid to the first Mass Effect game, where the developers, among other things, have adjusted the combat system considerably, as well as changed some of the areas in the game.

Spring reviewer really appreciated the package.

– The story is brilliantly told, you are thrown straight into conflict that encompasses the entire universe and which is about ancient, extinct races you had not even heard of five minutes ago. At the same time, it balances with close, good stories and a character gallery taken from the top shelf. I want to take almost everyone with me on every mission (No, not you Kaidan), and I always look forward to the next conversation with all my companions at Normandy, he wrote in his review.
