Thanksgiving Parade in New York with Spongebob and Snoopy

New York. Tens of thousands of people in New York cheered on giant helium balloons in the traditional Thanksgiving Parade. After an extensive forced break due to the corona pandemic last year, the spectacle took place on Thursday on the usual route and with more than a dozen balloons. Among other things, Snoopy, Spongebob, a Smurf and Chase from “Paw Patrol” floated along Central Park and through the street canyons of Manhattan in Midtown.

The parade is accompanied every year by orchestras, many floats and a large number of police. A total of around 6500 dancers, standard-bearers, musicians and people in disguise took part this year. Before the pandemic, more than three million viewers stood at the edge of the route every year, and around 50 million people were watching on television.

The parade, hosted by the Macy’s department store chain, is taking place for the 95th time this year. Last year, due to the pandemic, it was corona-compliant – much smaller, only in one place and only seen online for viewers.
