Thanks to the mums in times of crisis

The coronavirus cannot take this day from us: Today we celebrate all our mothers.

Vienna. There are almost 2.5 million families (including single parents) in Austria. Many will remember “Corona Mother’s Day” forever.

Nevertheless: If you follow a few rules, you should of course spend time with the family today. The epidemic also made it impossible for celebrities and politicians to let mom live – AUSTRIA asked:

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is happy to see his mom Elisabeth again. “Unfortunately without a hug.” SPÖ boss Pamela Rendi-Wagner goes on a bike tour with her daughters. FPÖ boss is also celebrating the 80s of his mom Gertraud with “coffee and cake”.

Three out of four mothers are given flowers today

Dancing star Silvia Schneider reveals in AUSTRIA: “We will celebrate together, I’ll take mom a little bit into nature.”

The pastor Toni Faber is looking forward to the short Corona break in the ÖSTERREICH-Rundruf: “I am really looking forward to being able to visit my mother again personally in a retirement home in Vienna. Thankfully, she handled this isolation very calmly and has not lost her zest for life. ”

Crystal star Victoria Swarovski is unfortunately in Munich, her mom in Kitzbühel. “I’m considering a video conference.” It is worse for ex-Miss Amina Dagi, who lives in Dubai: “Unfortunately, I can’t celebrate Mother’s Day at all, since video calls are also not allowed here.”

59 euros per head. Despite the circumstances, according to a survey by the Chamber of Commerce, 80 percent of Austrians over the age of 15 want to celebrate their mother. It is a ray of hope for the crisis-ridden trade: Mother’s Day is now the third largest gift day of the year after Christmas and Easter. According to the trade association, everyone wants to spend an average of 59 euros on gifts, so it would total 200 million euros.

Gift ranking: Three quarters of all mothers receive flowers. New and up to date: Protective masks are also a great gift this year. By the way: Today there is also a jackpot in the lottery – which mother would not be happy about 1.4 million euros?

Corona rules: Please no Bussi for the moms

A virtual family meeting would be best. Otherwise: Please take measures.

Vienna. Sad, but true because of the corona: This year the beloved mom shouldn’t even get a kiss from her children (exception: everyone lives in the same household). This time we should follow a few rules to contain the dangerous virus.

›All contacts between generations are dangerous‹

1. Best not at all. It is the harsh reality: “All contacts between generations are a risk,” reminded green health minister Rudolf Anschober this week. The best thing would be to celebrate Mother’s Day today via video chat or by phone.

2. Relocate outdoors. If you meet, you should ideally do it outdoors. The weather plays along anyway (see right). Also important here: keep your distance.

3. Choose location carefully. When choosing the outdoor meeting point, make sure that it is not very populated there.

4. Home visits with great caution. Of course, visits to the house are allowed. But the Minister of Health recommends adherence to the precautionary measures: distance, hygiene (wash and disinfect hands) and protective masks.
