Thai Airways is considering putting the Airbus A380 back into service

Thai Airways flew a total of six A380s before the corona crisis, but they were mothballed due to the pandemic. For a long time it seemed that they would disappear permanently: the two devices owned by Thai were sold at the end of 2020 on sale to put.

Now, at the end of 2022, no buyer has yet been found and the Thai state company is considering putting the two specimens back into service. The other four have been leased and will not return, Chatasingha told FlightGlobal this week, among others.

Thai has significantly reduced its widebody fleet in recent years. The airline also said goodbye to Airbus A340s, Boeing 747s and most 777s and A330s. But now that air traffic is recovering rapidly, Thailand is once again in need of extra capacity.

If the airline decides to fly the A380 again, it will join Lufthansa and Qatar Airways. Those two also originally planned to stop using the double-decker bus after the pandemic, but had to go back to it later.
