Tesla Model S Plaid, three hours to ‘turn it off’ – Electric

It took three hours for the volunteer firefighters in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania to completely put out the flames that destroyed a Tesla Model S Plaid, one of the best performing electric cars around. The flames they have engulfed the sedan of the Elon Musk brand I flared up suddenly and with such rapidity as to surprise even the owner of the car who risked being trapped inside the car.

Tesla Model S Plaid, acceleration and top technology

According to what has emerged so far, the man behind the wheel of the Tesla Model S Plaid would initially have looked for an escape route, with the car that would have moved a few meters (as also witnessed by some passers-by), only to be able to abandon the vehicle. It would be one of the first 250 specimens delivered of the new super electric of the Palo Alto brand. After the grueling three hours of work to put out the flames that enveloped the car, there is practically nothing left of the Plaid, except the rims and the badge, with the car literally melting due to the very high temperatures.

At the moment Tesla has not yet answered investigators’ questions that they are trying to reconstruct what happened also to establish the causes of the stake. Meanwhile, the owner of the battery-powered sedan can be said to be more than lucky to be able to escape it without serious consequences: last April in Texas, due to an accident, two men died inside the cockpit of a Model S that ended against a tree and then it caught fire. On that occasion the accident had come into the spotlight because the rescuers had not found anyone in the driver’s seat. Even in that case, the accident is still being investigated by the competent authorities, with the possibility that the driver attempted to escape through the rear doors, only to get stuck inside the car and lose his life.
