Meta’s Threads Launches Web Version: Features, Updates, and User Growth

Jakarta

Threadscompetitor Twitter from Meta, the web version will be launched soon this week. Previously Threads was only available in the application version on HP.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously mentioned that Meta is working on a number of new features for Threads, including a better search system, which will also be launching this week.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, the launch plan is not final and could be changed. According to Adam Mosseri, Instagram boss who also oversees Meta, his party has been testing the web version of Threads for at least the past week. However, according to him, the web version of Threads still needs a number of improvements before being released to the public.

The first Threads were released about 1.5 months ago, but with sober appearance and features. The number of users shot up to 100 million, and was immediately enlivened by various celebrities and big companies.

But Threads still doesn’t have a number of important features and only then are added gradually. For example the newly available follow feed, as well as the ability to verify links to Mastodon profiles.

From this it can be seen that Meta might want to integrate Threads with the Activity Pub social networking protocol, as quoted by detikINET from The Verge, Monday (21/8/2023).

But on the other hand, there are still very limited features such as search. Users can only use the search feature in Threads to find other accounts, not specific content.

Meanwhile Threads is now also present on the web via the Threads.net domain. But its functionality is still very limited because users can only view posts and Threads accounts.

If a user clicks the reply, repost, link, or send button on a Threads post on desktop, the service will only display a QR code to install the Threads app on mobile.
