Tens of thousands of Muslims take to the streets for anti-French protests: ‘Macron is a terrorist’ | Abroad

Protesters marched through the streets of the capital, Dhaka, chanting slogans like “boycott French products.” They also carried banners calling French President Emmanuel Macron “the greatest terrorist in the world”.

In Pakistan, police used tear gas against thousands of protesters walking towards the French embassy in Islamabad. Some activists tried to break through police barricades.

In the Islamic world, demonstrations have been taking place against France for some time. Angry Muslims accuse Macron of being Islamophobic. The French leader has spoken out against Islamic extremism after the recent murder of teacher Samuel Paty. He also defended the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which is very sensitive among Muslims. “Macron does not know the power of Islam,” said a protester in Dhaka.

France has been repeatedly startled by jihadist violence in recent years. Three people were killed in Nice on Thursday morning when a young Tunisian attacked people in a church. He was armed with a knife and is said to have shouted “Allahu akbar” (God is the greatest). Teacher Paty had been beheaded near Paris earlier in the month after showing cartoons of Mohammed in front of the class.
