Tennis: Alexander Zverev tests collaboration with David Ferrer

Tennis-Star Alexander Zverev is testing a collaboration with 38-year-old Spaniard David Ferrer. Like the ex-professional Ferrer at the Homepage of his academy, both have been training together since Monday. The 23-year-old Zverev had been coached mainly by his father since the separation from Ivan Lendl last year.

In the 15-day “trial period”, the future relationship between the two should be determined, the statement says. For the Ferrer Tennis Academy, it was “a privilege” that one of its directors accepted the challenge of working with a player from Zverev’s format. The management of the world ranking seventh has so far not commented. The Spanish newspaper “Marca” first reported on the planned cooperation.

Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann has a high opinion of Zverev’s potential new coach. “David Ferrer stands for intensive training, intensive work, bringing 100 percent every day. If you can get it in whatever function, that’s a positive story,” he said at Sport1.

Criticism after party instead of corona quarantine

Zverev had recently received criticism for his behavior during the corona pandemic. He should have violated corona rules. Zverev had appeared at a party surrounded by guests, although he had previously been quarantined after attending the controversial Adriatic tour had announced. National tennis coach Barbara Rittner called his behavior in SPIEGEL “disrespectful and ignorant”.

Next week, Zverev is scheduled to attend the “Bett1Aces” show tournament in Berlin (from July 13) start. The ATP tour is scheduled to resume play in mid-August, with the US Open starting on August 31.

Zverev is considered one of the greatest talents in tennis. He has already won eleven tournaments on the ATP tour, most recently in May 2019 in Geneva. His best result in a Grand Slam tournament was moving into Semifinals at the Australian Open in January this year.
