To make a timelapse of the Sun, NASA analyzed 425 million photos of the star taken in the past 10 years.
Exactly 11 years of the Sun’s life gathered in a 61-minute video. It takes all this time for the Sun to complete a full cycle of activity.
From February 2010 to June 2020, the NASA Observatory of Solar Dynamics (SDO) has photographed the celestial body and compiled the images taken in high resolution. A file that represents more than 20 million gigabytes of data!
Each second of this video corresponds to a day in the life of the Sun: the first visible image was taken on June 2, 2010, and the last, on June 1, 2020.
The video shows the increase and decrease in activity during a solar cycle such as planets in transit and solar flares.
