Ten thousand crores in arrears; Minister – Public Works Department gave only six months’ account PA Mohammed Riyas | PWD | PWD contractors

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 10,000 crores of arrears owed to public works contractors in the state. According to the RTI document, from 2016 to 2022, contractors in Thiruvananthapuram district owe Rs 4,227 crore and contractors in Malappuram district Rs 1,181 crore. 924 crore in Kannur and 728 crore in Thrissur.

But last month Public Works Minister Mohammad Riaz replied to the question in the Assembly about the total arrears of 1270 crores. The minister has given only the figures for six months from last November to April this year. The RTI document also states that none of the contractors had to pay compensation in the disputes related to the contract.
