Tell the children: New York was founded by Belgians

We often forget that it is a Belgian who is at the origin of this city.

In 1624, a Dutch company of merchants decided to send men to America to establish a colony there in an area called Nieuw Nederland, in Dutch, and Novum Belgium in Latin. The settlers who arrived were almost exclusively Walloons. When Pierre Minuit, another Protestant Belgian living in Holland, arrived, he became the governor of the territory of New Belgium and bought for a ridiculous sum the island of Manhattan from the Indians who lived there.

Later, this island became the city of New York that we know well …
