A 15-year-old teenager was shot twice last night outside a public housing building (NYCHA) located behind the Metropolitan Opera House, in the famous Lincoln Center, New York’s cultural mecca.
The 15-year-old was outside the Amsterdam Houses on W. 62nd St. near Amsterdam Ave. on the Upper West Side when the shooting began shortly after 7:20 p.m. Thursday. It is unclear if the unidentified victim knew her attacker.
According to the New York police, the minor was shot in the torso and a bullet grazed his chest. Paramedics rushed him to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition. There were no immediate arrests as police worked to locate the gunman.
Witnesses heard two shots. “Sometimes shootings happen, but “It’s a very quiet neighborhood.” said to Daily News a tenant of the building, who only identified himself as Alex. “It’s surprising because it’s nicer than some areas.”
Armed violence is constant in New York, in streets and also in buildings and commercial establishments, in many cases with young people as protagonists.
This week, a 34-year-old Hispanic man, recently released from prison with the benefit of parole, was shot dead one block from his home in The Bronx (NYC).
Earlier this month the owner of a laundromat was fatally shot during a group robbery of his business in Brooklyn (NYC). They took his gold chain.
Then on December 10, Raymond García, a man who had recently moved from Puerto Rico, was executed after being shot 38 times in 30 seconds inside the lobby of an apartment building in The Bronx, in an apparent settling of scores for drugs.
