March 14th may seem like just another normal day for many people, but for math fans and enthusiasts, the date is even celebrated in some countries around the world: it is the “Dia do Pi”.

🔢 Dia do Pi? Pi is a mathematical constant (i.e., a value that never changes) found when the circumference of a circle is divided by its diameter. The result will always be equal to 3.14159265358… and is represented by Greek letter “π”.

🗓️ Why March 14th? Everything makes more sense when the date is seen in American format, when the month comes in front of the day: 3/14.

🥧 Pie day? In some English-speaking countries, such as the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, the date is celebrated with pies. This happens because, in the language, the pronunciation of Pi (pi) and pie (pie) are the same (the pronunciation is equivalent to “pai” in Portuguese).
