A serious situation is being denounced by the drivers of the taxi drivers union of the city of Cúcuta, in the department of Norte de Santander, who they assure that the criminal group Tren de Aragua would be intimidating them with the collection of a “vaccine”.

WEEK heard the testimony of one of the victims, who stated that these men are in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta, in the municipality of Villa del Rosario, exactly in the sector known as La Parada, located a few meters from the Simón Bolívar international bridge that connects with the Táchira State, in Venezuela.

The truth is that this driver took a service to the El Canasto sector, in La Parada, and it was right in that area when the strangers intercepted him to ask him to collect 10,000 pesos, in order to be able to continue his route.

They told me that they were members of the Aragua Train and that if I refused to pay, they would break the windows of the car or burn the taxi, I told them that I was not going to pay anything, because I was only carrying, it was a service, and they also asked the passenger for 20,000 pesos,” the victim stressed.

In addition, the driver stated that when he refused to pay what they were asking, other men came threatening him with firearms. “They are more armed than the Police, I had no choice but to take the money, and they told me: ‘I am taking this away for you and all your colleagues who have not paid, because we are going to extort anyone who comes here’”.

This situation has generated concern among those who saw the reopening of the border as a new job opportunity; however, now they feel insecure and afraid.

For his part, the mayor of Villa del Rosario, Carlos Julio Socha, delivered statements to the regional media GO+ Newsabout this problem that puts the general public and the visitors who cross the border daily and vice versa on alert.

We have already taken La Parada with the Army and the Police, we are clearing it, we are organizing public space, because without security there is nothing. That is why we are proposing an open-air shopping center to make La Parada a beautiful place, as President Petro emphasized in one of his visits,” said the president.

Likewise, he announced that in the Security Council led by the Minister of Defense, Iván Velázquez, on the morning of this Thursday, March 16 in the city of Cúcuta, new security strategies for Villa del Rosario were determined.

“I asked the minister to expedite the construction of the Police District there in La Parada, I also asked for the reinforcement of the Public Force with the presence of 320 permanent police officers and I also asked for the financing to install 140 security cameras throughout the municipality and he said yes”, Socha pointed out.
