Tauron Wydobycie: a high-speed mega elevator was built in Libiąż

Almost 90 percent of the Tauron Wydobycie investment has been advanced, i.e. the construction of the 800-meter level at Zakład Górniczy Janina. At this stage, a people congress has already started, one of the largest shaft cages in Poland. As a result, the time needed for the crew to reach their workplaces will be almost 20 times shorter.

• The mine in Libiąż has the largest steam coal deposits in Poland, estimated at 2.1 billion tons.
• Among other things, fuel with a reduced chlorine content is produced here, which is dedicated to the new 910 MW power unit in Jaworzno.
• The proximity of the production assets of the Tauron Group enables the maintenance of low transport costs of this raw material.

– This investment will provide access to new resources of good quality hard coal, with parameters necessary for the operation of low-emission power units – says Tomasz Cudny, president of Tauron Wydobycie. – With the effective production of fuels dedicated to the energy sector in mind, we are also taking steps to create a combined mine with the Janina and Sobieski mining plants. This combination of two strong mines into one effective mining plant will accelerate the profitability of the mining process by the company through the benefits of organizational optimization – emphasizes the president.

One of the largest shaft cages

The crew descent at ZG Janina takes place with the use of one of the largest shaft cages in Poland. This mega-structure is four floors high and can accommodate up to 200 people or 24 tons of materials at a time. The travel path of the cage is over 790 m.

People travel on four floors of the cage. The maximum possible number of employees on the floor is 50 people, which allows up to 200 employees to travel simultaneously.

However, due to the preventive safety procedures in force in the mining plants as part of antiviral activities, the number of people staying in the exit cage at the same time is limited so that safe distances between employees are maintained. In turn, the maximum weight of a load in a cage is 24 tons.

The time for 200 people to go to the level of 800 meters or their departure is about 6 minutes. For comparison – currently, for the crew to walk to the work stations at the level of 800 meters, it needs about 100 minutes.

The mine shaft hoist, hoisting machine, control and signaling system for the shaft have been designed to enable fully automatic operation in the future.

The entire investment is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2021.

10% share in the domestic coal sales market

Tauron Extraction is located in the structures of the Tauron Flu. The mining plants of Tauron Wydobycie extract steam coal. In the Tauron Group, they deal with the extraction, enrichment and sale of hard coal in three Mining Plants: Sobieski, Janina and Brzeszcze.

The company owns approx. 40 percent. balance resources of energy coal from deposits developed in the country and 10%. share in the domestic coal sales market. It ensures safe supplies of fuel for power plants and CHP plants of the Tauron Group, and offers individual customers coal fuels for heating, including eco-peas.
