The Brazilian volleyball team player Tandara Caixeta was provisionally suspended after presenting an adverse analytical result for a prohibited substance in an anti-doping test carried out on July 7, in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, before boarding for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Brazilian Authority for Doping Control (ABCD) confirmed the presence of the substance “Ostarin”, prohibited in competition and out of competition. The substance, which modulates metabolism and can help gain muscle mass, belongs to a class of anabolic steroids. Tandara has already boarded back to Brazil after being notified of the test result.

Sought by the ge after being notified of the decision, the opposite did not want to comment on the case. On social media, Tandara said he is working in his defense and will only speak out after the case is concluded.

The coach of the Brazilian team José Roberto Guimarães said he was surprised by the news and said that the player guaranteed not to have consumed anything prohibited.

– It was a very difficult situation, because everything was so fast. When I heard the news, I was worried about her and the group. How the group was going to absorb that. I talked to her. It’s up to her to make the defense. He assured that he consumed absolutely nothing and I believe that. And then the meeting with the group when speaking. Everyone was open-mouthed, with no ground – revealed Zé Roberto.

Current CEO of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), former player Adriana Behar spoke at the Meeting with Fátima Bernardes about the case and explained the procedures after the notification.

– As the notification arrived practically within 24 hours of a match as important as today, it was practically impossible for the defense to be made in time for the athlete to participate in the final stretch of the Olympic Games. But for having the right to defense, it is a provisional suspension. It can only be validated or not within seven days, if the athlete enters the defense process.

Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD) clarifies that the doping control process in the case of the athlete from the Brazilian women’s volleyball team, Tandara Caixeta, followed all international standards established by the World Anti-Doping Agency (AMA-WADA).

We inform you that the collection of the athlete’s biological material was carried out out of competition, on July 7, 2021, at the national team’s volleyball training center, in Saquarema/RJ, at the same time when all the other team athletes also provided the material.

Upon receiving, on August 5, 2021, the result of the Brazilian Laboratory for Doping Control (LBCD), the only one accredited by WADA in Latin America, it was verified the presence of the substance Ostarin, which by the Brazilian Anti-Doping Code implies the mandatory application of a temporary suspension of the athlete.

Ostarin is an unspecified substance, prohibited in-competition and out-of-competition. It belongs to class: S1.2 Anabolic Agents – Other Anabolic Agents – SARMS from the AMA-WADA List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.

ABCD will follow the procedural steps of the case in secrecy to protect the athlete’s rights.
