Carriers fear a de-scrapping in 2021 as this could take out of circulation at least 80 percent of the units in the Tamaulipas because most are more than 20 years old.

The state delegate of the National Confederation of Mexican Transporters (CONATRAM) Jesús López Sandoval pointed out that if this law enters into force the year that is just beginning, the impact will be very strong and the movement of goods will be affected.

Although he did not say the exact number of carriers in the entity, he said that most have trucks that exceed 20 years of operation and due to the economic crisis that has occurred this year, companies have not been able to renew their vehicle fleet.

He explained that a single unit has a cost of more than two million pesos and if the payment is made in installments, the amount increases to almost three million pesos that, under current conditions, entrepreneurs cannot cover.

“We have stopped the progress of the companies a lot, there is no certainty, if this year they apply the law many will leave the market, because now the minimum is 20 years old, 80 percent no longer comply with that and the times are not to be acquired, the January slope also comes “.

To this is added that the banking companies do not trust them to grant them loans and ask them for a series of requirements that they often cannot meet.

“If the truck costs three million pesos, we have to have facilities with a value greater than five million so that we can guarantee payment to the banks, plus all the requirements that this entails, they don’t trust us and they don’t want to lend us” .

López Sandoval said that they never expected a contingency like the one that has arisen this year due to covid-19, which has already cost at least 15 wheel operators their lives and a major economic crisis.

On another topic, he said that more roads are required to improve connectivity and reduce merchandise delivery times in their markets, which are the center and north of the Mexican Republic.
