Talking Pandemic to Kids

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Covid-19 is also a threat children. Nationally, about 10.4 percent of cases are positive Covid-19 is the child’s age, which is 0-18 years.

In addition, as many as 1.7 percent of the total national death toll are children. So, as of Wednesday (14/10) around 240 children have died due to Covid-19.

Of course for children, understanding this pandemic is not as easy as adults. The role of family, especially parents, in explaining Covid-19 is very important.

It is important for the community to pay more attention to the family environment. The Ministry of Health said that up to Wednesday (14/10), nationally there were 1,299 family clusters.

Apart from education in the family, prevention of Covid-19 in the family environment must also be a concern. The government, through the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPA) and the Ministry of Health, has developed a Family Health Protocol.

One of the points written is the family health protocol in the interaction between family members.

“How to clean yourself before interacting with family members at home. Ensuring we do not bring the virus into the house, from our clothes and belongings (adults),” said the Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force (#Covid-19 task force) dr Reisa Brotoasmoro, Monday (12/10).

In addition to protecting children from the risk of being exposed to Covid-19, parents must take care of their children to avoid stress during a pandemic. The Indonesian Pediatric Association (IDAI) issued recommendations on how to prevent stress in children. In these recommendations, parents can take several points to educate children about Covid-19.

The points from these recommendations include involving children in compiling an activity agenda during the Covid-19 pandemic. Another point, parents must become role model in implementing health protocols recommended by the government, such as #pakaimasker #cucitangan and #jagajarak.

Parents are also good at taking care of their children’s psychology in the face of this pandemic. Family and Child Practitioner and Chair of the Indonesian Child Protection Agency (LPAI) Seto Mulyadi advised parents to ensure their children remain happy and optimistic about this situation.

“Make children happy so that they will be psychologically positive during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the power to ward off the virus, remain optimistic, happy, and create a pleasant atmosphere,” said the man who is often called Kak Seto in a talk show Inviting Children to Have Fun in Pandemic Period , Sunday (4/10).

There are still many important factors to discuss in educating children during the Covid-19 pandemic.
