“Seeing them leave, the Taliban thought they were running away with guns and opened fire on their car,” said Wali Jan.

The head of Helmand’s information and culture department, Hafiz Rashid, confirmed the incident. He called the two martyred women during the clean-up operation.

“Two women were martyred during a clean-up operation in the Bost Kala area of ​​Lashkar Gah,” Rashid said.

In recent days, the Taliban have intensified road patrols in Helmand and Kandahar. They have set up temporary checkpoints at major crossroads in Kandahar, where they search for random vehicles or check the identities of the people inside.
