The United States and its allies will end their military mission in Afghanistan by the end of next month, even as Taliban insurgents claim they now control 85 percent of the country. The claim could not be independently verified and has been denied by the Afghan government.

The Islamic fundamentalist group’s rapid advances in recent weeks have raised concerns about the security of the Afghan capital, Kabul, and Hamid Karzai International Airport, formerly Kabul International Airport, where NATO wants to secure important exit points to the outside world for foreign diplomats and aid workers.
“The newly installed air defense system has been operating in Kabul since 02.00 Sunday,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
“This system has proven useful worldwide in repelling rocket and missile attacks,” the ministry was quoted as saying AFP, Monday (12/7/2021).
