Breaking News: Take-Two Interactive Shuts Down Two Game Studios

Game Industry Faces Further Job Losses as Take-Two Interactive Closes Studios

In a challenging year for the games industry, Take-Two Interactive Software, the parent company of celebrated videogame publisher Rockstar Games, has announced the closure of two studios. Private Division, as well as the London-based subsidiary Roll7, known for games like OlliOlli and Rollerdrome, will be shutting down. Alongside them, the Seattle-based developers Intercept Games, responsible for the highly anticipated Kerbal Space Program 2, will also be subjected to job cuts and office closure.

Roll7 Faces Closure as Take-Two Interactive Axes London-based Studio

According to a note to staff, Take-Two Interactive is planning to close its London-based studio, Roll7, famed for the action-packed game Rollerdrome. While the closure is unfortunate for Roll7 and its developers, Take-Two Interactive will be providing severance agreements to its staff who will be affected by this decision. The closure of Roll7 will indeed be a significant loss in the gaming industry as the studio has delivered memorable gaming experiences over the years.

Intercept Games to Suffer Job Cuts as Take-Two Shuts Down Seattle Office

Intercept Games, maker of the highly anticipated space flight simulation game, Kerbal Space Program 2, will also bear the impact of Take-Two Interactive’s decisions. A notice filed with the Washington State Employment Security Department confirms that the Seattle-based office of Intercept Games will close, resulting in the loss of approximately 70 jobs, equivalent to the studio’s workforce. Despite the closure, Take-Two Interactive’s vice president for communications states that ongoing updates for Kerbal Space Program 2 will continue as planned.

A Year of Struggles for the Games Industry

Unfortunately, the closure of these studios adds to the long list of job losses and project cancellations that have plagued the games industry this year. Notably, major companies like Microsoft and Sony have also experienced mass layoffs, while smaller teams have had to face the disappointment of project cancellations. These developments highlight the challenging and competitive nature of the industry, emphasizing the need for adaptability and innovation.
