A cargo ship was attacked again on the Red Sea. Two people on board would be injured, and two others are missing. The attack came a few hours after the Yemeni Houthis had claimed yesterday’s attack on another cargo ship.
The ship was on its way to the Suez Canal. For the coast of the Yemeni city of Hodeida, a few small boats were shot and drones were used. With that, the attack was very similar to Sunday, on the cargo ship Magic Seas.
On Sunday afternoon the Magic Seas was bombarded for four hours with drones, grenades and gunfire. Soon fire broke out and the ship made water. From the Magic Seas was also shot back.
The ship, also from a Greek owner and with Liberian flag, has since sunk, although that has not yet been confirmed. All 22 crew members could leave the ship on time and were picked up by another ship.
Relative
For yesterday’s attack it was relatively quiet on the Red Sea for a long time. Since the start of the war in Gaza, Houthi rebels have attacked about a hundred ships on the Red Sea, but that had not happened for months. Shipping has therefore increased again lately.
Shortly after the attack of yesterday afternoon, Israel performed air strikes on goals in Yemen. Three ports and a power plant, among other things, were attacked. According to Israel, those attacks are a reaction to “repeated attacks of the Houthis on Israel”. Last night at least one rocket was fired at Israel from Jemen. The air alarm sounded in several Israeli cities.
The Houthis say they attack the ships out of solidarity with the Palestinians. Even now that is the case according to the Houthis. A Houthi leader said in a statement on TV that they will continue until “the aggression against and the occupation of Gaza stops”.
According to the Magic Seas shipping company, the ship had no link with Israel.
