Switzerland: “March for Life” calls for time to think

The anti-abortion demonstration “Marsch fürs Leben” (“March for Life”) will take place on September 17, 2022 in Zurich-Oerlikon. In particular, this year the organization is calling for an appropriate reflection period for women who are considering having an abortion.

At least ten percent of women who have an abortion regret their step, says Beatrice Gall, media officer of the Swiss “March for Life”. “They realize their child is dead and they will never hold them in their arms,” she adds. With such arguments, the organization is promoting the period of reflection this year.

According to the organizers of the 12th march, which usually takes place in Zurich, those affected should take their time, look for support options for living with a child and think about what they need to be able to welcome the child.

With the collaboration of Bishop Eleganti

The “March for Life” – as it is officially called in Swiss German – takes up the demand of the popular initiative “At night advice is expensive”, which wants to introduce a day of reflection before every abortion. The initiative was launched in December 2021 by SVP national councilors Andrea Geissbühler (Berne) and Yvette Estermann (Lucerne).

It is still in the signature collection stage. Another initiative launched by the two politicians entitled “Save Viable Babies” is against late abortions. Both texts will be presented at the event. Yvette Estermann is to give a speech on this occasion. Several Christian personalities are expected to attend the march, including the former auxiliary bishop of Chur, Marian Eleganti.
