Suzuki: the patent for a new parallel twin engine – News

Suzuki remained the only Japanese brand to have a mid-displacement motorcycle with a V-engine for sale: the V-Tree 650 which inherited the mechanical unit of the road SV650.
An excellent engine that has twenty years of roots. Honda left the V2 of Transalp for the parallel twin NC700 and then 750, Kawasaki gathers wide acclaim with the 650 of the Ninja and the Versys e Yamaha does the same with the MT-07 series (naked, Tracer and Ténéré).

A patent filed in Japan earlier this year, and released in August, reveals Suzuki is developing one new parallel engine unit.
Whether it will be to replace or to complement the current V2 we don’t know, but it is certainly a parallel has advantages economic and often of vehicle layout compared to a V-architecture, which for its part plays its best cards in other areas.

Suzuki presented the concept Recursion to the Tokyo Motor Show 2013: a new medium displacement twin cylinder forward with the compressor. Initially single-cam of 588 cc, which later became double-cam 700 “XE7” in 2015 (pictured above).

The new patent engine the compressor is leaking showing an even more compact and rational design. Everything suggests that it could be the basis for a new series of models of medium displacement and competitive cost as in the case of the aforementioned Japanese competitors.

Another interesting aspect of this engine is the position of the catalyst in the first section of the exhaust pipes behind the radiator. A location that benefits from higher exhaust gas temperatures (improving the cold efficiency of the system) and frees up space under the engine.

The chassis represented in the patent drawings is purely indicative, dealing with the patent the engine and its exhaust system.
It is conceivable that the displacement is around 700 cc and that the power is of the order of 75-80 horsepower.

Of course, it remains to understand how everything will evolve and which one productive outlet eventually Suzuki planned.
