Suspicious Object Found at Israeli Ambassador’s Home in The Hague: Police Investigating Possible Explosive

Feb 13, 2024 at 11:26 PM Update: an hour ago

A suspicious object has been found at the home of the Israeli ambassador in The Hague. The police are investigating the package and have not ruled out that it is an explosive. The area has been cordoned off.

Someone was seen throwing a suspicious package over the fence of the house, a police spokesperson confirmed NU.nl. The police cordoned off the area around the house around 8:30 PM to investigate the suspicious object. The police are also investigating the person who allegedly threw something over the fence.

The Explosives Reconnaissance Team is investigating the object. According to photographers present from Regio15 a sniffer dog has given a signal by barking that it has smelled something striking.

The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service has also been called. They arrived at the location just after midnight.

There is a lot of security around the building. The police could not say whether the ambassador or his family were present in the home at the time.

An emergency order has been in effect around the Israeli embassy since Monday, but the house is not included. The embassy has also been given extra security since last week. The Hague mayor Jan van Zanen issued that order because of a threat “that must be taken extremely seriously”. The embassy is near the Israeli ambassador’s residential home.
