Suspect failed assassination attempt lawyer does not dare to explain | Inland

LIVE – Reporter Saskia Belleman is present at the trial. Follow the case via her tweets at the bottom of this article (from approximately 9.30 am).

Bert-Jan ten V. (48) says that anything he says about this case poses a danger to him and his family. According to him, his girlfriend’s car was totaled a few months ago and shadowy people were standing at her door. “I don’t want to play the victim here, because Mr. Schol is the real victim.” Co-suspect Maikel TT (32) said that he had been in the car that was used in the attack, but not that day.

Schol was hit in the leg and seriously injured. He was walking his dog outside at the time. The attack would have had to do with the bankruptcy of a gym in Hengelo. The lawyer acted as a trustee and had suspected that the gym had been used as a cover for money laundering. Schol is present in court in Almelo on Tuesday.

The suspects remained out of sight for a long time. A breakthrough in the case only came a year after the attack, in November 2020, when the police saw new video images of the attack and a broadcast of Opsporing Verzocht provided tips. Two men from Hengelo were arrested.

Bert-Jan ten V. (48) and Maikel TT (32) acted on behalf of the Public Prosecution Service. They are said to have carried out more ‘jobs’, such as collections, for criminals. Ten V. himself did not want to talk about ‘collection’. “I call it money mediation, I went to talk to people who still had to pay money, in order to find a solution together.”

On Tuesday, the facts will be discussed in court, among other things, the sentences against both men are expected on Thursday.
