Susan Sarandon’s recent comments on the Gaza conflict during a pro-Palestinian rally in New York on November 17 were not tolerated. For example, she said that American Jews get a taste of what it feels like to be Muslim. Sarandon is also said to have repeatedly accused Israel of genocide, atrocities and war crimes. The American talent agency ‘UTA’ immediately fired the actress.

But now the American actress has come up with an apology on Instagram. “I wasn’t planning on speaking, but when I was invited to the stage I spoke up anyway in an effort to express my concern about the rise in hate crimes across the country,” she explained. “I said that Jews are getting a taste of what it’s like to be Muslim in America, which is so often subjected to violence. That was a terrible mistake.”

Solidarity

She pointed out that her controversial statements wrongly implied that Jews have not faced persecution. She then highlighted centuries of Jewish oppression and genocide in Europe, as well as the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh. Susan then wrote that she deeply regrets minimizing reality and making hurtful comments. “My intention was to show solidarity. I’m sorry I failed in that.”
