Survey Shows 39% of People Want to Exercise More in Spring, YouGov Study Finds

Berlin (dpa/tmn) – The days are getting longer, the weather is getting better. Some people now decide: I want to do more sport. This is shown by a YouGov survey commissioned by Peloton.

39 percent of those surveyed said they wanted to exercise more often in the spring. For 19 percent, this is no longer just a plan; they say: I have already implemented that. One in three people say they don’t want to change anything when it comes to sport at the moment (33 percent).

Survey participants were also asked which factors increase their motivation to exercise regularly in the spring. At the forefront: the opportunity to go outside (49 percent) and the longer days that bring more light (48 percent).

One in ten people prepares for a special occasion with sport

What also plays a role for some of those surveyed: that more group activities take place in the brighter times of the year, such as hiking together with friends and family (18 percent). 11 percent are motivated by a special occasion such as a wedding or a vacation, for which they want to prepare through exercise.

However, a fifth of those surveyed (19 percent) said: There is nothing that increases my motivation to do sports in the spring.

The data is based on an online survey by the opinion research institute YouGov, in which a total of 2,054 people aged 18 and over took part between March 22nd and 25th, 2024.
