The British newspaper “Express” reported that King Charles III and Queen Camilla made a surprise appearance on the “American Idol” program after the historic coronation ceremony last Saturday.
Katy Perry and Lionel Richie – who performed at the coronation ceremony on Sunday – welcomed the king and queen, according to the newspaper.
Katie and Lionel were chatting with “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest when he asked how the festivals were in the UK. “What a party,” Lionel said. “It’s unbelievable.”
Katie also said: “She was amazing and we are here for the coronation at Windsor Castle.”
Afterwards, Lionel told the American viewers that he had a “surprise”, saying: “Now we’re trying to figure out how to come up with something different for the show. So…we have a surprise.”
He then welcomed King Charles and Queen Camilla on screen, to a standing ovation from viewers.
And the king laughed when he asked the singers: “I just wanted to know how long you’re going to use this room. I just wanted to check.”
Camilla laughed as Lionel said, “We have to leave the room at once,” and then thanked the King and Queen for coming, to which Charles replied, “No, thank you for the great performance, and thank you Katie too. It was really nice.”
The King told Lionel and Katie that it was “great to be here” in the UK for the coronation.
Katie and Lionel are usually among the judges on “American Idol”.
During their absence, they were replaced by Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette in the 21st episode of the season.
