Surprise, 18-year-old swimmer wins Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold

Tokyo

Tunisian Swimmer Ahmed Hafnaoui managed to make a surprise in the swimming branch Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He successfully won gold at the age of 18 years.

Hafnaoui who appeared in the men’s 400 meters freestyle managed to be the fastest to reach the finish line on Sunday (25/7/2021). He posted a time of 3 minutes 43.36 seconds after swimming as fast as lightning in the first 200 meters and came out stronger in the last 50 meters.

Hafnaoui himself actually appeared as a dark horse in the final swimming round after only placing eighth in the preliminary round with a record time of 3 minutes 48.68 seconds.

But in the final, he showed his strength by defeating Australian Jack Mcloughlin and American Kieran Smith.

This victory also shocked the world swimming, apart from his young figure. At the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, he was only able to finish in eighth place.

The defeat made Ahmed Hafnaoui determined to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. But the proof came sooner after becoming the fifth Tunisian athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics and the second swimmer for his country.

“I just put my head in the water and that’s it. I can’t believe it. This is a dream come true,” he said of the key to his victory.

Seeing the power Hafnaoui in sports competition is actually not a surprising thing. Because, in him there is a strong athletic gene. His father, Mohamed Hafnaoui is a former national basketball team player.

However, again Hafnaoui found it hard to believe what he had achieved. “I can’t believe this. It’s so incredible.”

“I feel better in the water this morning than yesterday. Now I’m an Olympic champion,” he said.
