Suriname Fireworks Accidents at AZP: 9-Year-Old Boy and 53-Year-Old Man Injured on First Day of Official Sales Period

From the start of the fireworks period, there have been two registrations of fireworks accidents at the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP). Both cases occurred on Wednesday, December 27, the 1st day of the official single sales and release period in Suriname.

At around 3 p.m., a 9-year-old boy was treated on the eye due to an injury sustained by self-fired fireworks. After being treated he was sent home.

The second registration was at around 9:41 PM when a 53-year-old man was treated for facial injuries caused by a previously unknown type of fireworks. After treatment, he was referred to an ENT specialist.

The official fireworks period runs until January 1, 2024 at midnight. The medical teams of the AZP, MMC, RZW and the Suriname Fire Brigade strongly appeal to Surinamese society to be extra vigilant and, above all, responsible during this period. Pay attention to yourself, pay attention to others and pay attention to your surroundings!
