Sumy city council on March 9 arbitrarily changed the decision on evacuation population along the so-called “green corridor”.
The chairman of the Sumy regional state administration – the head of the Sumy regional military administration Dmitry Zhivitsky announced this tonight in his Telegram-channel.
“We organized this evacuation together with the Office of the President. Buses for evacuation for Sumy were provided by the leadership of the Poltava region. The desired number of people for evacuation was given to us by the Sumy city council,” the official noted.
He stressed that the organizers ensured the removal of even more people than what was indicated in the letter by the Sumy city authorities, but there were some unfortunate cases.
“On March 9, the decision of the military administration on the bus departure points was changed by representatives of the Sumy City Council! This brought disorganization into the process, endangered people and delayed the exit process until late,” Zhyvitsky stressed.
In addition, the chairman of the Sumy OVA said that the organizers turned to the carriers of Sumy and the region, but not everyone agreed to provide transport for the evacuation.
“The Poltava region provided many times more transport than carriers from the city of Sumy could provide,” Zhyvitsky specified.
He asks law enforcement agencies to give a legal assessment of the actions of representatives of the local government.
“We appeal to law enforcement agencies regarding the unauthorized change of decisions on the evacuation of the population by the city council, and a legal assessment should be given to the actions of representatives of the local government,” the chairman of the Sumy OVA said.
At the same time, he noted that everyone who could not leave on March 9 will be able to leave Sumy on March 10.
“I had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Infrastructure Alexander Kubrakov regarding assistance to us, and now they are looking for additional vehicles to evacuate people. If “green corridors” are provided for other cities of the Sumy region or the existing humanitarian corridor for Sumy is extended, so that with a large number of vehicles we can withdraw everyone from the territory of the combat zone,” Zhivitsky emphasized.
