Sukabumi City Still Battling High Dengue Fever Cases in 2023: Health Officials

SUKABUMI – The number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) cases in Sukabumi City is still high. It is proven that from data recorded by the Health Service (Dinkes) from January to December 2023, there were 408 people infected with this deadly disease.

Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Sukabumi City Health Office, Drg Wita Darmawanti explained, if you look at the existing data from a total of 408 cases, two of them died.

“The highest number of dengue fever cases occurred in December 2023, when the total reached 69 cases,” said Wita to Radar Sukabumi, Wednesday (3/1).

Wita detailed that the hundreds of dengue fever cases included 43 cases in January, 25 February, 22 March, 17 April, 22 May, 20 June, 28 July, 41 August, 32 September, 37 October, 52 November and 69 December. “Meanwhile, one case died in January and one died in November,” he said.

According to him, the Health Department continues to strive to control dengue fever cases by inviting people to care about the health of the environment around their homes to increase the mosquito larvae-free (ABJ) rate. “The target for Sukabumi City’s larvae-free rate this year is 95 percent,” he said.

In controlling dengue fever cases, the Health Department encourages the public to implement Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). Next, carry out action to eradicate mosquito nests through 3M, namely draining water reservoirs, tightly closing all water reservoirs so that mosquitoes cannot enter.

Next, pile up or recycle used goods that are no longer used so that they don’t become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

“To prevent Aedes aegypti mosquito bites, residents can apply anti-mosquito liquid to several parts of the body when doing activities inside and outside the house or when going to sleep. “Start planting mosquito repellent plants and go through the 1 House 1 Jumantik Movement (G1R1J),” he explained.

The public is also asked to be able to understand someone who experiences general symptoms of dengue fever, such as headaches, fever, pain in muscles, bones or joints and nausea. Apart from that, vomiting, pain behind the eyes, swollen glands and rashes and red spots appear on the skin.

If someone or their family experiences such symptoms, they must immediately take them to the Community Health Center or hospital so that they can be treated immediately. “Because deaths occur in dengue fever patients due to delays in receiving medical treatment,” he concluded. (bam)
