According to Unicef, 87 percent of 15- to 49-year-old girls and women are circumcised in Sudan. Now the country has taken an important step in the fight against this practice.

In genital mutilation, the clitoris is often removed in addition to the labia. The consequences of this procedure can include infections and pain during sexual intercourse.
