“Successful Defusing of 250-Kilo WWII Bomb in Frankfurt: Hesse Explosive Ordnance Clearance Service Completes Operation”

Shortly before 7 p.m., the Hesse explosive ordnance clearance service was able to report the successful completion of the defusing of the 250-kilo World War II bomb. All residents affected by the evacuation were able to make their way home.

Around 1,800 people had to leave a danger zone defined by the Hesse explosive ordnance clearance service (Government Council Darmstadt) in the afternoon. The evacuation went without any incidents worth mentioning. A few people with restricted mobility had to use transport assistance.

The bomb was successfully defused. Road closures and rail traffic were released again by the police. The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe support center on Berner Straße was visited by around 20 people in the course of the afternoon. The citizen hotline received almost 80 calls.

The explosive ordnance clearance service from the Darmstadt regional council, the Frankfurt regulatory office with the city police, the Frankfurt fire brigade with full-time and volunteer workers, the health department, the aid organizations German Red Cross, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe and the police were involved. Around 200 emergency services from the police, fire brigade and aid organizations from Frankfurt were deployed.
