The Olomouc wholesale company GBC Solino experienced an extremely successful year and the solar boom helped it. Businesses and households have been frantically building solar power plants to cope with high electricity prices. Panels on roofs, which were something unique a few years ago, have become almost commonplace, and the companies that sell or install them are on a tear.
The sales of GBC Solino, which increased from 695.2 million crowns in 2021 to 4.4 billion crowns last year, are an example of how big a turning point has occurred. The company’s profit jumped even more sharply, rising from 23.8 million in 2021 to 652.3 million last year, i.e. more than 27 times.
“We keep ninety-nine percent of the economic result in the company and we are constantly developing our business. We are experiencing a revolution in energy and the field is still evolving. At the same time, the Czech Republic is not doing badly. We had an early first boom in photovoltaics here, which left a lot of capable people and companies here,” company boss Petr Grumlík told SZ Byznys.
He also co-owns the family company GBC Solino, which has been selling photovoltaic products for 20 years. The largest shareholder is Jarmila Grumlik, who owns four-sixths of the company, one-sixth is owned by Sandra Grumlíková and the last sixth is Petr Grumlík.
Russian invasion
Last year, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the prices of energy raw materials such as natural gas and oil, as well as electricity itself, rose manifold. Households and companies were therefore forced to look for energy savings, and solar energy was the most common solution.

As for the number of rooftop power plants on family houses, last year was clearly a record in the Czech Republic. Almost 34,000 of them with a capacity of 289 megawatts were put into operation, which represents an increase of 366 percent. Companies also tried to reduce electricity costs. Data from the support programs prove that the segment has experienced unprecedented growth and the wholesale company GBC Solino has just benefited from this, supplying products of world brands such as Suntech, Solax, Fronius, Solaredge and Renusol.
The company is now trying to reinvest the high profit in its development. “We are always active in the surrounding countries and this year, for example, we opened an office in Austria. It’s not just the Czech solar boom, but a new era of electrification all over the world, which is fast approaching,” adds Grumlík.
The company is now investing in its background, the environment for employees, buying technology for better service and cooperating with Czech companies on the development of its own products. In addition to photovoltaic modules, GBC Solino supplies, for example, hybrid inverters, batteries and other accessories. It supplied equipment for the production of more than 500 megawatts of energy and sells to half of the European Union states.
