Stunning Image of Comet Globule Resembling Giant Creature Reaching for Galaxy

An astronomer opens the image “Comet globule” in the constellation Aft It was shaped like a giant reaching out to grab a galaxy.

Astronomers release amazing images from space It’s an image of a nebula that looks like a giant creature reaching out a translucent hand to grab a spiral galaxy. It is considered a rare phenomenon in the universe.

The photo was taken by the Victor M. Blanco Telescope’s Dark Energy Camera at the Cerro Tollo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. The object in the “Cometary Globule” picture is in the constellation Puppis, which is about 1,300 light years from Earth.

Cometary globules are a type of dark nebula. It is characterized by dense gas and dust surrounded by hot, energetic matter. Comet globules are characterized by their long, comet-like tails. But that is the only thing about them that is like a comet. And astronomers still don’t know how cometary globules form.

The comet globules in this image, called CG 4, is one of many comet globules found in the Milky Way galaxy. It looks like a complex cloud approaching the spiral galaxy ESO 257-19 (PGC 21338), but the galaxy is more than 100 million light years from the cometary globule.

The head of CG 4 is an area that looks like a hand. Most of the elements are dust. It has a diameter of 1.5 light years and has a long tail that spans 8 light years.

Astronomers discovered the cometary sphere by accident in 1976 while looking at images taken by the UK’s Schmidt Telescope in Australia. These phenomena are difficult to find because the surrounding area is often very small. And the tails of the globules are often obscured by stellar dust.

But the dark energy camera has a special filter that detects the red light emitted by ionized hydrogen. This appears at the outer edge and head of CG 4. Hydrogen produces this special red glow after being hit by radiation from nearby stars.

Although the stellar radiation makes cometary globules visible, But that radiation also destroys the end of the globule over time However, there is enough gas and dust in the globule to help form many stars the size of our sun.

Cometary globules can be found throughout our galaxy. But most of it is in the Gum Nebula, a bright cloud of gas believed to be the remnants of a slowly expanding stellar explosion about 1 million years ago

Astronomers have two hypotheses about the formation of the globule. which were disturbed by supernovae over time

The second idea It may be due to winds and radiation emitted by large hot stars nearby. Astronomers believe that stars are probably the real reason for their creation. This is because all cometary globules found in the Gum Nebula have tails pointing away from the center of the nebula. And in the center of the nebula are supernova remnants and pulsars, or rapidly rotating neutron stars, which form when massive stars collapse and explode.
