Study: Regularly Eating Grapes Help Lower Heart Attack Risk

CANTIKA.COM, Jakarta – According to a study from the University of California, Los Angeles, United States, regular consumption of grapes can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack. To arrive at this finding, the researchers tracked 19 people between the ages of 21 and 55 who consumed about 40 grapes or the equivalent of two servings each day.

They found that just four weeks of eating grapes resulted in improved health among people who didn’t regularly eat fruit and vegetables.

In addition, the diversity of the microbiome or community of bacteria that live in the intestines to improve their health is also higher. Among the good bacteria that increased during the study was Akkermania, which burns sugar and cholesterol and strengthens the gut lining.

Grapes also contain important antioxidants that can reduce inflammation inside the body.

“We found grapes to have a beneficial effect on gut bacteria, as a healthy gut is essential for good health,” said lead study author Professor Zhaoping Li.

According to the study, the participants had almost eight percent less bad cholesterol and bile problems that caused bad cholesterol to drop more than 40 percent.

Harmful fats can cause clots that clog blood vessels and cut off blood flow to the heart or brain, leading to a heart attack or stroke
