Strike at the Amazon branch in Germany

The Verdi union has called in workers at six Amazon outlets in Germany to strike. The strike is scheduled to continue from Sunday night for four days. This is the latest attempt to force the US e-commerce group to recognize collective bargaining agreements.

Strikes will take place in Rheinberg, Verne, Koblenz, Leipzig and in two places in Bad Hersfeld.

Verdi is pushing for a 4.5% pay rise for workers, citing good revenues in a pandemic.

Germany is Amazon’s largest market after the United States. The company claims to offer excellent pay and benefits. During previous calls for strikes, she said more than 90% of logistics center staff worked normally.

An increase in salaries is forthcoming …

Recall that earlier this week, Italian consumers were urged unions not to buy from Amazon in support of striking 40,000 logistics workers due to working conditions.

This is the first strike in Italy that affects the whole supply chain of the American giant for online trade. Warehouse workers, logistics centers and drivers are taking part in the strike. The 24-hour strike was organized by the unions Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti after the failure of negotiations between workers’ representatives and the American company for a change in employment contracts.
