Strache is now head of an “Alliance for Austria”

He took over from Karl Baron, DAÖ chairman, the movement that arose from the FPÖ, which is now being renamed “Team HC Strache, Alliance for Austria”. “Competition is always stimulating,” said Strache on Friday, who described the team as a “new, modern movement”.

Baron spoke of a “historic day” – not because of Ibiza, but because of the 65th anniversary of the signing of the Austrian State Treaty. He also referred to Secretary of State for Culture Ulrike Lunacek (Greens), who announced her resignation yesterday morning. Baron: “Ulrike Lunacek is leaving, HC Strache is coming.”

Well-known FPÖ renegade

Strache announced the candidacy for the Vienna City Council: “The Viennese know what they have in me.” The new party also wants to be active in Lower Austria and Burgenland. The chairman presented the former FPÖ MP Christian Höbart as general secretary of the movement and Lower Austria party leader.

Höbart, who left the FPÖ yesterday, criticized the party’s handling of Strache in Ibiza. “After 14 years at the head of the FPÖ, you were thrown overboard instead of protecting you.”

Strache’s wife Philippa was designated as a representative in the National Council. The fact that the name and logo of the new team are reminiscent of Team Stronach was called “coincidence”.
