Ecatepec, Mex.— Rain greater than 24 millimeters per square meter, hydraulic systems in poor condition or that collapsed due to the large amount of water that fell on the municipality, in addition to hundreds of tons of garbage that were on the public road and that were dragged by the water current, were some of the effects registered in several areas from Ecatepec on Monday.

Due to the meteorological phenomenon, which some residents qualify as the most serious in the last five years, two people were killed by the current that descended from the Sierra de Guadalupe, as confirmed on Monday night by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM).

Yesterday, the authorities of the three levels of government continued the work to help the population that was more affected.

During the early hours and morning of this Tuesday, the government of Ecatepec removed tons of mud and garbage from the streets that dragged the current caused by the meteorological phenomenon that occurred on Monday afternoon in the communities of the Sierra de Guadalupe.

Hundreds of municipal workers, elements of the Mexican Army and the Mexican Army participated in the work to free the affected roads. National Guard.

According to the local government report, 19 communities were the most affected, which is why the Mixtli Plan was activated in an emergent manner, to support the population.

Municipal government personnel, supported by Vactor trucks from the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (FALL) carried out water evacuation work in colonies where flooding was recorded.

San Cristóbal, Nuevo Laredo, the Fifth Zone and San Andrés de la Cañada, among others, were where the most damage occurred, announced Mayor Fernando Vilchis.

City council workers were sent to various colonies to support the population, so elements of Civil protection and firefighters, and the agency Ecatepec Drinking Water, Sewerage and Sanitation Services (Sapase) carried out various actions to expedite the evacuation of the liquid.

The Governor of the State of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo Maza, reported that more than 600 elements of Civil Protection, the State Security Secretariat, firefighters, municipal police, the Mexican Army and the National Guard attend and support the affected families.

He pointed out that in Ecatepec there are Vactor-type machines to complete the tasks and reiterated that they are atypical and very heavy rains, so the vulnerable population must be attended to.

He recalled that since before the start of the rainy season, in a coordinated manner between the State and the municipalities, de-silting work has been applied to have clean water discharge routes, for which he called on citizens to be very responsible and not to litter, with this, to be able to keep the roads clean.

On the situation of Lerma river, indicated that a year and a half ago, works were applied to prevent flooding in this area, they reinforced borders and various works in the water discharge area, together with drainage, with the municipalities of Lerma and San Mateo Atenco being the areas that had the most damage after heavy rains, so this year their actions were reflected by not repeating the floods in the same magnitude.
