Heavy morning peak on Monday
Due to the continuing strong wind, the ANWB expects a heavy morning peak on Monday.
Police in Assen uses muscle power
On the road it is fairly quiet. But on A28 near Assen, a tree has come over the crash barrier. Branches hung over the road, the police blocked a lane. With the help of old-fashioned muscle power, agents have cleared the way. However, the police are calling for the speed to be monitored.
In Vries, a car was buried under a tree. A tree also landed on the railway line between Bad Nieuweschans and Weener. There are no trains, which is expected to last until 11.30 p.m. There are stopping buses, extra travel time is more than 60 minutes.
Sunshade loose in Hoogeveen
In Hoogeveen, the fire brigade had to advance to the Bilderdijk residential care location early in the evening. A detached sunshade caused problems.
High tide is expected during the night and Monday (see also below: denominations in Delfzijl probably closed). Rijkswaterstaat Hollandsche IJsselkering will close after midnight. In Friesland, the Fryslan Water Board is working hard to transport excess water to the Wad, via Zoutkamp, among others.
Don’t go on the road
At the end of the afternoon, the ANWB called on people not to take to the road, unless it is strictly necessary.
The police called mid-afternoon to call the emergency number 112 only if there really is an emergency situation. More than 300 reports of damage had already arrived at the Meldkamer Noord-Nederland at the end of Sunday afternoon. (text continues under the photo)
Trees, roofs and façade panels
At the beginning of the afternoon, for example, a roof of a house in Barger-Compascuum blew and trees fell on a large number of places in Groningen and Drenthe.
In Winschoten, employees of a store were able to get away just in time, when a store window blew in. In Bedum, the roof of the temporary Aldi supermarket on Stationsweg blew. Facade panels were released in Stadskanaal and Groningen.
Wildlands closed, Noorderplantsoen too
Wildlands in Emmen decided to close the doors around half past three for security reasons. In Groningen, the municipality closed the Noorderplantsoen in any case until 10 a.m. on Monday morning.
The Rolderstraat is closed in Assen, because a jetty was about to fall.
Ships are hiding in Eemshaven, high tide on Monday
In Eemshaven it is busier than normal. Many captains have sent their ships to the harbor to shelter from the storm.
The Hunze and Aa’s and Noorderzijlvest water boards expect high tide on Monday. That means that the denominations in Delfzijl will probably close on Monday morning. There are no reasons for dyke monitoring, say the water boards.
The incoming flights from London, Copenhagen and Munster have been canceled at Groningen Eelde Airport. Also the flights that would leave to these places are canceled.
Weather experts expect Ciara in two fronts
According to meteorologists, Ciara is racing in two fronts over the Northern Netherlands. The first front passed from 5 pm. The second front is expected from 8 pm. Heavy showers with gusts of 120-130 kilometers per hour could occur in this.
