Storm Alex: the Metropolis increases its solidarity endowment in twelve municipalities

If Christian Estrosi has confidence in the ability of the Metropolis to commit “tirelessly” in “total solidarity” for the reconstruction of the valleys devastated by Alex, he barely hides his annoyance over the state’s ability to do the same …

“President [Emmanuel Macron], when he came to the valleys, pledged to come back a year later. He is also committed to ensuring that nothing is lacking in the solidarity of the State “, begins the president of the Metropolis. Who lets go : “Out of 170 million euros committed, only 12 million. And we provide almost all project management”. Obvious understatement: “I have confidence in the word of the Head of State and in that of the government, I only say that it drags … a little”.

And the mayor of Nice continues, the prefect delegated to the reconstruction of the valleys, Xavier Pelletier, in the sights: “I am counting on him to have the funding that we are waiting for.” Then, cropping as a rule: “If the work has advanced [dans les vallées de la Vésubie et de La Tinée], it’s thanks to us. “.

What belongs to Caesar must be given back to Caesar: “He takes himself for the spokesperson for the Metropolis, but we are able to make our own spokesperson ourselves. I tell him: your essential mission is to ask for state aid”, launches Estrosi, an allusion to the interview with the storm prefect that appeared in our columns on April 8.

An increased allocation for 12 municipalities

Solidarity, hammered away yesterday at a metropolitan council meeting during which elected officials officially adopted the budget dedicated to the reconstruction of the valleys. “Our fellow citizens of the Valley are, I know, particularly attentive to our mobilization. It is a question of justice”, assured Christian Estrosi. Who makes a stop in Saint-Martin-Vésubie, where he made a stopover, a few days ago. “We mentioned in particular the reconstruction of the Boréon road, of which more than half of the route was destroyed or devastated. These are 7 breaches that will have to be rebuilt. We have started this work which will continue until 2022, for a total of 25 million euros “, he said.

And, “From this summer, a temporary road will be accessible to all. Towards Mollières and Salèse, and towards Madone des Fenestres, our teams are at work to offer new temporary accesses”. He then confirmed his wish to recreate “an economic activity zone on the Tourons site, which will be intended to accommodate in particular the sawmill, and the SDIS”. Otherwise, “the access road that will be created will serve the municipal plots on which the County Brewery will be installed”. The studies are in progress and a start of the work is possible this summer.

Finally, the metropolitan council was called upon to support the municipalities particularly affected by the storm with an increase in their metropolitan solidarity endowment, the DSM. This will be more than in the financing plan mentioned during the meeting of the Metropolitan Council on October 16.

The DSL increases by 2 million euros from the usual 9.7 million euros to 11.7 million euros for this year. A sum distributed between 12 municipalities which have to deplore significant damage. “Each of them has drawn up financing plans and obtained aid. Yet too often the remainder of the charge remains very important, even crippling!”, concluded Christian Estrosi.
