MARKET REVIEW. The New York Stock Exchange started in positive territory Thursday at the opening after weekly applications for unemployment benefits lower than expected despite the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The clues
In Toronto, around 9:50 a.m., the S&P/TSX rose 39 points, or 0.23%, to 17,397 points.
The composite index S&P 500 was stable (+ 0.01%) at 3,669 points.
The Dow Jones, the flagship index gained 47 points, or 0.16%, to 29,931 points.
The Nasdaq heavily tinted by techno, advanced 41 points, or 0.34%, to 12,390 points.
The context
The day before, the flagship Dow Jones index had concluded up 0.20% to 29,884 points. The Nasdaq, predominantly technological, had dropped 0.05% to 12,349 points.
The broader S&P 500 index gained 0.18% to 3,669 points, posting a new record, seven points above the previous one recorded the day before.
