Tarn-et-Garonne: indefinite strike for employees of the logistics company XPO

the essential
Employees of the logistics company XPO located south of Montauban, in Tarn-et-Garonne, voted for a general and unlimited strike. Nearly 80 people began a picket line in front of the company gates.

The coming of winter is never a good time to go on strike. Never mind for the employees of the logistics company XPO located in Montbartier, south of Montauban. This Wednesday morning, 90% of workers on permanent contracts, or nearly 80 people, voted unanimously for an immediate and unlimited strike. As a reminder, the company XPO is a logistics service provider: it receives, manages and prepares orders for large groups such as Leclerc, Zara, Auchan and Action. It is the latter company that owns the 42,000 m2 of premises where 320 XPO employees work, of which nearly three are temporary workers.

“80% of employees are smicards”

Voted this Wednesday morning, and without a response from management, the strike will be renewed this Thursday. Poor working conditions, low wages, management deemed “unworthy” offend the employees, “80% of whom are smicards”, reveals Mohamed Yahyaoui, CGT union referent. The strikers demand an increase in wages “at the same level as the executives”, a revaluation and a harmonization of the bonuses, in particular with the site Action of Moissy (Seine-et-Marne) whose bonuses are doubly higher.

“Management by terror”

Employees are also asking for an improvement in working conditions. According to Mohammed El Majdoub, central XPO logistics union delegate, the XPO site in Tarn-et-Garonne is “the most accident-prone of the 85 XPO sites in France. In 2020, we had 42 accidents. However, when a temporary worker, who did not does not have the same priorities as a CDI, has an accident at work, this accident at work blows 20% of the premium of his team… “.

The employees demand above all a “stop of management by terror”. “The managers are cowboys, denounces Mohammed El Majdoub, three investigations are underway with the labor inspectorate and the health commission for pressure on employees”. The strikers finally ask for 100% support of the mutual by the company as well as the stopping of the smart card for meal vouchers.

Contacted by The Dispatch, XPO management says it favors “social dialogue in the context of all our negotiations, including this one”. The company specifies that “these claims have already been addressed and are being studied according to a defined meeting schedule”.
