The Stiftung Warentest took a close look at current tablets, including Apple’s iPad. The differences between the models are enormous. A point of criticism can be found on almost all tablets, as it turns out.

Stiftung Warentest: iPad Pro is the best tablet

Is it up to the Stiftung Warentest, then Apple offers the best tablets. The manufacturer’s iPads can secure first place in all sizes, ahead of the competition from Samsung, Huawei and Lenovo. The testers rated various iPad models as “good (1.7)”, only the small iPad Mini (2019) performed slightly worse. The new iPad Pro (2020) is not yet in the list. In addition to the equipment of the iPads, the Stiftung Warentest liked above all that Apple has provided updates for many years – this is not the case with some Android tablets.

The testers see a clear connection between price and update availability. Manufacturers provide their flagships with updates for longer, while more affordable models belong to the old iron more quickly. With Android tablets, it is also noticeable that only a few are delivered with the latest version. Android 10 can be found on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, among others, while many other tablets still only have Android 9 installed.

Next to the iPad Pro (2018) especially the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro did well, even if it is described as “quite thick and heavy”. The testers like that the battery can be easily replaced. The tablet is also a real “outdoor companion” thanks to the protective case included. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro has therefore received the rating “good (1.8)” and is only slightly behind the iPad Pro (2018).

Tablets: Lenovo in the back ranks

Lenovo tablets can only be found in the back of the bank’s Stiftung Warentest investigation. It makes no difference whether the tablets have just come onto the market or have been available for a few years. In the last place is the new Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus, which can be had for 199 euros. In the categories of battery and versatility, the affordable tablet leaves a lot to be desired, according to the testers.
